Karol's Story
Written by her daughter Amber
December 2013

My mom, Karol Cherry has worked for Covered Bridge Golf Course for over 13 years. We all know that so many love and care for her. She enjoys making people laugh and has never met a stranger. Karol Cherry is my best friend.

Mom was experiencing numbness from her neck down and thought she may have had a pinched nerve in her back. After several days of having this feeling she went to U of L hospital on September 1, 2013. After many tests and x-rays a mass was found on her spine that was eroding her bone. The mass was cancerous. The cancer that my mom has is called Multiple Myeloma. Multiple Myeloma is a plasma cell cancer which attacks bone. Extensive surgery was performed to remove the cancer and bone from her spine, replacing the missing bone with plates and screws. Mom was in the hospital and rehab for more than a month. Family, friends and even customers would visit her while she was in the hospital as well as rehab. She has now been through two weeks of radiation and has started chemo therapy. She still has a long road ahead of her but as we all know she is a very strong willed woman. Cancer will not bring her down. Mom has her good days and her bad days just like everyone else but her spirits about her condition are optimistic. Since my mom was in the hospital our family has become even closer. I love my mom and my family so very much and I do not take them for granted. I've realized how blessed I am to still have my mom with me. I try to make the most of each day that I get the opportunity spend with her.
